4 1'2" driver specs?

4 1'2" driver specs?

Postby Vince F » Sat Feb 20, 2010 9:54 pm

I have some 4 1/2" JBL 2104A drivers, I'm trying to get info on. They also have a
Vifa BC-11BG07-06 #. Any idea where I might find the info? A search of both #'s didn't bring up anything.

No idea. The Vifa #11BG07 allows for some guesswork, though.

The 11 means that it would be an 11cm driver. Yup, that 4.5 inch, very obvious.

The BG might indicate that it's a broadband driver. Expect a frequency response of something like 80Hz - 16kHz, with a sensivity of, let's say, somewhere between 80 - 85dB (@1W/1m).

A typical power rating of a Vifa BG driver might be 30Wrms.

Best regards, Klaus

Ah, yes, the "-06": this looks a bit unusual, as it's two digits. Usually, Vifa pvoides a single digit at the last position, after a slash. This digit indicates the nominal impedance. Now, at the first glance, this looks like the wrong clue - I mean, which manufacturer builds 6 Ohm drivers? Actually, Vifa does.

Here's what Google pulled up:
http://www.parts-express.com//pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=299-432

"This item has sold out. For possible replacements or substitutions, please check the drop-down box below for a list of related items to view more products in this category. This well-behaved driver has a very smooth frequency response with minimal cone breakup resonances, meaning it will work great even with relatively simple crossovers. This is accomplished via a special coated paper cone/dustcap assembly and a linear treated foam surround. The cosmetic polymer chassis is very handsome and will work perfectly in flush-mount situations-- no driver recesses are required. The bucking magnet allows placement within 6 or 7 inches of a CRT monitor. An outstanding all-around driver, this unit will provide great sound in many different applications, including line arrays! Specifications: *Power handling: 40 watts RMS/80 watts max *VCdia: 1" *L1k: .60 mH *Impedance: 6 ohms *Re: 4.00 ohms *Frequency range: 60-5,000 Hz *Fs: 58 Hz *SPL: 89 dB 2.83V/1m *Vas: .20 cu. ft. *Qms: 3.95 *Qes: .33 *Qts: .30 *Xmax: 3.5 mm *Dimensions: Overall Diameter: 4-7/8", Cutout Diameter: 3-7/8", Mounting Depth: 2-3/8". "

There's also a response graph under the "specification" tab.

Someone built this tower using this driver:

hope this helps

FWIW, all of the Vifa drivers I've used have had 2 digit impedance suffixes. I've seen -04, -06, -08, -12 and -16
